I can almost taste it in my mouth as I am describing it to you now.  If you have never tried it, it is normally served cold. The custard base is traditionally flavored with vanilla, but is also sometimes flavored with other varieties, such as lemon or orange (zest), rosemary, chocolate, coffee, liqueurs, or other fruit.

Long Beach offers plenty of events that everyone in the family could enjoy, if you know when and where to go. The Long Beach Museum of Art, located on Ocean Blvd., offers free admission on Fridays, courtesy of the city’s encouragement of the arts. Museum hours are from 11:00am to 5:00pm, and parking is also free!

Long Beach’s Museum of Latin American Art, or MOLAA, also has “Target Free Sundays”. MOLAA is offering art workshops from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and docent tours from 2:00pm to 3:00pm every Sunday. Rather than by the beach like the Long Beach Museum of Art, MOLAA is located closer to the heart of the city on Alamitos Ave.

If art museums aren’t your thing, check out the two Farmer’s Markets, that may be something that interests you. Sure, people are selling things, but it’s free to enjoy the atmosphere and the street fun that gathers around. The World Trade Center’s Farmer’s Market opens downtown every Tuesday from 11:00am to 3:00pm while the Alamitos Bay Farmer’s Market takes place from 9:00am to 2:00pm on Sunday’s.

When the Farmer’s market closes down but you are still looking for outdoor crowds and that shopping atmosphere, take a stroll to Long Beach’s 2nd Street shopping area, where restaurants, bakeries, & boutiques are full of people.  Street performers and artists also wander to this area. Though 2nd Street is always a joy all year round, the real spirit of Long Beach comes out during the holidays.  All the way down 2nd Street during the major holidays there will be decorations up and down the road and on all the stores.
